(World Organisation for Animal Health)

The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1924 that coordinates, supports and promotes the control of animal diseases. The main purpose of WOAH is to control epizootic diseases and prevent their spread. Other objectives include the sharing of transparent, scientific information, international solidarity, the promotion of hygienic safety and veterinary services, food safety and animal welfare. WOAH is recognized by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as an international reference for the safe trade of animals and animal products on the risks posed by animal diseases and zoonoses.
